Water Colossus - Grand Guppy by Kharnage Water Colossus - Grand Guppy by Kharnage
I wanted to do something abit different to the standard idea of a colossus, start with a single being or mutation in a single life-form, and then give it dominance over it's surroundings.

So in this instance a Goldfish. The idea being that the goldfish had become a master of it's element.

This took a long long time.. And towards the start of the competition I thought I had a real shot at placing, but since then so many fantastic entries have been submitted and I truly doubt I'll even be in the top 50. But oh wells.

It was fun, and experimental. Hope you guys enjoy.

Did you mean this picture when you talked in your journal about using a completely different palette than what you were used to? :D This is dead nifty! Loving the idea of a goldfish boss; on his own, he doesn't look so intimidating, but then your eyes wander south and see those tentacles...

Yeah, I tend to stay away from such bright colours, as I have difficulty dealing with shadow in this sort of palette, but I think it turned out okay in the end. ^^

wow incredibly cool concept man. 10 points for not making a stereotypical colossus like 99% of the other entrants.

Thankew! I read "Originallity" in the things they were looking for and went out of my way to do something abit more outlandish. ^^

Thanks!

very creative yet its not monstrously as in no big creepy tentacles or mouth full of teeth maybe that is why its not far up the chain. The texture on that tentacle is palpable, the light filtering from the fish "bowl" is very holly looking gives an air of an abstract representation of some Shinto deity.

Love the way you made the tentacles. Great structure. How did you do this ?

I built a placeholder in 3D, with things like the frame-work for the tentacles, and the sphere of the bubble, and a few splines representing the seaweed. Then, using the framework of the 3D model as a basis, I sketched the monster ontop, and then painted in the detail over about a week.

Love the concept. Great to see a goldfish mastermind being a baddie instead of regular big ol' monster.

I built bits in 3D but painted over them. None of the 3D actually remains in the final image. Thanks though. ^^

This is awesome. It also reminds me of the alien friend from Fairly Odd Parents, but that is probably because I've been watching a lot of Fairly Odd Parents lately.

Mark Chang, the tentacled space creature that becomes a friend of Timmy and the gang, despite regular threats to destroy earth in some way or another.

It is available on Netflix instant play, so this past couple weeks I have been watching FOP and Danny Phantom way too much.

I can already see what he's thinking. ".....Oh fucking hell."
This is an excellent Colossus. I love it!
I keep thinking of Shadow of the Colossus though, and the mute Hero.. When I first played through that, it was utterly amazing..Up until my first flying Colossus. I stared at that thing, sat down my controller, and said "Oh to hell with that!"

..I wonder if that hero thinks the same thing..

Hehe, I was going to do like arrows and slash marks in the tentacles, but then I thought it'd be better if the dude was just staring up at it in abit of a "wtf" moment.
