Sashah - Dreamspirit - CBust by Kharnage Sashah - Dreamspirit - CBust by Kharnage
When I first started this I was like, "Right, I'm gonna track down real wolf faces and NAIL fur direction". In the past, I've sort of just painted fur spiralling out from the nose, and it looks okay.. But thats not how animals fur lays.. It takes all these contours. So I found all the ref I could, and tried to mimic that same fur-laying direction..

I think the final effect is a new type of Anthro-Portrait for me.. The bars been raised, just as it was when I tried new Armor methods.

I also experimented for yonks trying to nail Hair that matched Fur. I've said this in the past, but the main issue with realism Anthro, is that Animals do not have a hair line. So more often than not, it looks like a wig, and it's not like you can show the hair coming out of the skin, because they're covered in fur, which hides that. So I went for a very straw like, and coarse hair, more similar infact to a horses tail, than human hair.. And I think by keeping it "Feral", it actually blended for once.

Anyway, I doubt anyone even reads this shit. I also have step-by-steps of the painting that I may post if people are curious.

Once again, another 25usd Character Bust for Dreamspirit. And a massive thanks to her for being an awesome awesome client. <3

Character Sashah belongs to :icondreamspirit: .

Yep. Although it took a very long time, compared to most paintings, (because I made the client wait so long before starting it), and I had to Ref about 50 Wolf heads to get it bang on.

holyholyholy.... how did I miss this previously!?

The detail on this is completely amazing. I thing you did nail a realistic fur effect <3 Not to mention the texture on the nose!

Kharnage, darling, have I ever told you how much I am continually WOWed by your work? While I don't comment much anymore it's still true. You have come such a long way in the short time I've been watching you. I am continually impressed and amazed.

I really think you did pull off the hair line-into-fur fade... thing.. especially well here. And the fur detail - the time you spent examining facial fur direction shows. o_o I've drawn alot of anthro characters recently on another site, and I know how difficult it is to get the non wiglike hair..

I know right? It's /always/ my most feared part of anthro portraits, is making the hair not look like a wig. I am so excited when people ask for hair colour the same as the fur, because you can blend it that much easier.

The old Vanilla stuff is so outdated. They need to bring it up to speed. Female trolls still don't have a blink animation. Just gormless staring faces.

I personally believe you did amazing on the fur/hair. Wolf-face fur or fur direction in general is just a pain.

It looks lovely and pretty natural. <3

Literally a wolf-woman; fur masterful; symbiotic nature of the eyes and the sky, the colour, intrinsic of the natural, mother-nature themes... individual twist with the nose ring... Mystic : ) Not quite unique, a lot of this art doesn't have a signature alteration, the nose ring makes it yours.

One of the things I enjoy about doing commissions is the opportunity to paint things (and characters) I never have before, and assuming I have the time, I too usually try to push myself and learn and grow from a piece, so it is really neat to find out other artists out there are similarly motivated to do the same. :)

I know we've already spoken via email, but skulls, armor, fur, hair, humanoid animal characters and more are all really, really tricky pieces of subject matter. I know there are artists out there that have nailed down a particular niche, but it is a lot more difficult to find someone as versatile as yourself who is willing to push their art to the next level for commissions such as these. :)

Anyway: you mentioned that this has raised the bar for you, and I truly believe it has. The painstaking time you took to try to learn more about fur direction, how hair lays, and even subtle thing such as making that eye look both human and wolf at once really show. That hairline you're talking about is something I've also struggled with in my own interpretations for the same reasons you listed, but, good god, you make it look so fluid!

Again: thank you so very, very much for this. It was truly a pleasure working with you and thank you again for bringing my characters to life as you have here. :)

I read 'that shit' :P
I love this, love the lighting, gives the impression of a moon hiding somewhere behind the clouds, which fits the whole wolf part... of the wolf O_O The fur is awesomely done, I love the very tip of the nose where you can see the little pores and you made it look like there really are shorter and longer hairs throughout, which makes it very realistic. And that eye... phew, like I'm staring into the eyes of a living breathing thing
